7 Key Areas to Pray

Christians in U.A.E. are asking us to pray for:

  • Pray for the key leaders: Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (President), Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Vice President and Prime Minister) and the other five rulers of the remaining emirates will rule wisely bringing peace and justice. God instructs us to pray for the leaders of nations (1 Tim 2:1-6). Pray that these men will rule wisely and bring peace and justice to their respective emirates.
  • Expatriates comprise the majority of the population (around 90%). There are many believers among them and God has given them freedom to worship together. Pray that these expat Christians would catch a vision to see the gospel proclaimed to the Emirati people. Pray that the Lord would raise up many among Indian, Filipino, Korean, Egyptian, and Western believers among many others to share their lives and the gospel with the Emiratis.
  • Pray for the very few Emirati believers, that they would grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Pray that each believer will find several family members who will engage with the Gospel and that they will be able to quietly meet together. Pray for whole families to come to faith!
  • The UAE is a hot desert land like most of the AP. Pray Genesis 21:8-21 and John 4:14 over those in the UAE. Ask that they will learn that Jesus Christ is the “Water of Life” and go to him to drink and live! Pray for the Emiratis, that God would take out their hearts of stone and give them new hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 11:19). Pray that the Spirit would cause them to walk in his statutes (Ezekiel 36:27). Pray that God would show himself through signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit according to his will (Hebrews 2:4). Pray that he would open their hearts so that they would believe the Gospel (Acts 16:14).
  • The god of status and prestige has its grip on the UAE. The culture is marked by using money to gain personal power and glory. Pray that this god would be crushed so that the Emirati people would follow Christ no matter what the cost (Mark 10:17-31).
  • Dubai is a major international hub for transportation, finance and tourism. Its high standard of living supports a culture of luxury, opulence and extravagance. It is a busy, wealthy place where people are generally oblivious to the things of God. Pray that the people of Dubai would see their true condition before God and repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. “For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.” (Rev 3:17).
  • Every year, research is done among Arab young adults and every year, they state that the UAE is the best country in the Arab World. Pray for the Emirati young adults who comprise the majority of the population. Pray for open minds that are not afraid of radical change toward new thinking and beliefs. Pray for a greater openness to the Gospel as they leave some traditional ideas behind.

Join us and thousands of other believers from around the world December 2nd for prayer for the United Arab Emirates National Day.

  • Historically, there are archeological sites showing several population centers along the coast of the Arabian Gulf, including the UAE, dating back to 2000 B.C. Islam came to this region within the first 50 years after Mohammed’s death in 632 AD. Once a center for piracy, this area was known as the Pirate Coast before being subdued by British forces. It became a British protectorate in the 19th century and remained so until independence in 1971.

Today, the UAE is a federation of seven states, called emirates, ruled by tribal chiefs called Sheiks or Emirs. The largest and richest of the emirates is Abu Dhabi with significant oil and gas reserves. Dubai is the commerce center of the Gulf with the major port of Jebel Ali. The less wealthy emirates rely on the federal government (largely financed by Abu Dhabi) and the Dubai/Sharjah population hub for economic growth.

The development of the oil and financial industries in the UAE has brought fabulous wealth and rapid modernization. Millions of expatriates have come from around the world to work. UAE nationals make up only 15% of the total population.

Religious tolerance is granted to Christians. The government has given land for church compounds to be built in some of the emirates. However, there is little freedom and tolerance for local Emiratis to turn to Christ.
